HELEN ANNE HILLSON

Helen lives in Yaxley near Peterborough and started watercolour painting in 2000 and is basically self-taught with encouragement and motivation from late local artist Dai Davis. The desire to paint was due to the inspiration found in nature and the ever-changing effects of strong sunlight and shadows. Painting flowers as subject matter allows the use of a wide range of intense and vibrant watercolours and acrylics but Helen also likes to paint landscapes, still life, portraits and animals. Her aim this year is to paint large close-ups of flowers since speaking with artist Neill Jenkins at Gardeners World Live 2010.

Helen’s art has been exhibited in several places locally including the Norman Cross Gallery and Thorpe Hall and also at Holland Park and The Mall Gallery in London.

Many of Helen’s watercolour paintings have been reproduced as prints and greeting cards. Much of her artwork has been commissioned and she runs informal watercolour painting workshops and classes from her art studio in Yaxley near Peterborough.

Helen is a member of the Folkesworth Art Group and enjoys painting with other local artists finding the feedback from them with their varying styles of painting very beneficial. Several members of the group have just returned from a painting trip in Norfolk and last year we all enjoyed painting together in France.
